Being Tourists

Sometimes we take opportunities to experience where we live from a "tourist's" perspective. Which I think is good. It would be a shame to live here as long as we have and realize we've totally missed out on what we can see and do here. So, one day, we did the Williamsburg/Jamestown thing and really enjoyed it.

A statue of Pocahontas (whose real name, as it turns out, was Matoaka. Pocahontas was a childhood nickname. I didn't know that until they named a new school here "Matoaka")

A statue of Capt. John Smith....and no, there was not one of John Rolfe....at least not one that I found.

We had told the girls we were going to see a "fort" (the location of the original Jamestown Fort). Anna peeked through the wall and asked "where's the tent"? I think she was envisioning the kind of fort we build at home. Sorry for the let down, love!

"Isn't this the kind of hat that BOYS wear?"

I thought this was a cute pic of B and his little look-alike, enjoying the grounds in Williamsburg.

Kate playing in the dirt...just in case that needed clarification.

You guys live in such a fun place! So much history. We really need to get out and explore the desert that we live in. I'm sure there is a lot we have to learn about it. It's just so HOT. One of these days we'll get up to that big whole in the earth just north of here...the Grand Canyon.

Hey there, my name is Sarah Porter Martin. I was a good friend of Barrett's in High School. I am actually Brad Andrus's cousin. I found your blog off their family blog. It is good to hear how your family is doing? It looks like you are into photography. What type of camera are you using? You have a good eye and several darling subjects to shoot. The scenery there is beautiful. My husband surprised me with a new camera a year ago and I have been driving everyone around me nuts ever since.
Well, tell your hubby hello and if you would like take a look at my family blog, here is the address: http://vegasmartinfamily6.blogspot.com/
